Step One: Be honest about how addiction influences the body, mind and soul.

Step Two: Be open-minded to new people, places and things.
(Nothing changes if nothing changes)

Step Three: Be willing to accept the love of others in recovery.

Step Four: List resentments and acknowledge why they hurt.
(What are your triggers?)

Step Five: Share pain with someone else that can help to carry the weight.
(Pain shared is pain lessened)

Step Six: Engage in healthy behaviors for managing intense feelings.
(New habits and hobbies)

Step Seven: Develop boundaries for protecting serenity.
(New coping mechanisms)

Step Eight: Identify damage done, even when alcohol wasn’t involved.
(Self Reflection)

Step Nine: Make amends.
(Apologize or acts of service)

Step Ten: Apologize immediately when mistakes are made.
(Accountability)

Step Eleven: Reflect often on how life has improved in recovery.
(Gratitude list)

Step Twelve: Pay it forward by participating in the sober journey of others.
(“You can only keep what you have by giving it away”)

Step Thirteen: Stay vigilant of evolving recovery methods and addictions research.
(Awareness)
